PREVIOUS - PROGRAM 29 JUNE | 15:30 – 17:00 hours
We kicked off with an online session with an introductory talk by Robert Howe [Lakana]:
SC2: MYTHS AND LEGENDS OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
Maybe it’s because he’s approaching his 60th birthday or because he’s been spending too much time in isolation, but Robert Howe finds he’s getting increasingly unimpressed with myopic views about software engineering. So in this introduction to the Software-Centric Systems Conference 2021, he liked to throw down the gauntlet and challenged presenters and attendees alike to explain why the latest hot topic is so damned important.
Is machine learning really up to doing useful work? Isn’t Agile just an excuse for software engineers to avoid making delivery commitments? In a world where 99.999 percent of software already exists, what role is there for formal methods?
He expressed these and others views intended to be provocative. If he’s made you mad enough, make sure you come to the real-life SC2 event on 6 October to let him know what you think.
